Welcome to the blog of the Sistrunk classroom. Our classroom blog will be posted at the start of each month.

Here you will find upcoming events and get a glimpse of what is happening in our classroom.

How quickly our first month together has passed us by. As your children become acclimated to the daily routine and environment they are on the verge of establishing their own work cycles with a little less assistance and prompting from their teachers. As a group they are enjoying circle time, recess and transitioning from one activity to the other with more ease each day. Here are some highlights from the month of September.

Birthdays

We celebrated some September birthdays! We have many more coming up soon.

Fruit, Flowers and Cooking Projects

Your children are enjoying their hearty snack each morning after recess time. This often includes foods that we make with your children in the classroom. We shall use your produce donations for much of this.

I will share some simple toddler friendly recipes from time to time in this blog. Each recipe has a section titled “Toddler as Sous Chef” that provides tips on how your toddler can participate in the cooking process at home.

To kick this off, here is a recipe we use for CINNAMON RAISIN MUFFINS.

Circle Time Songs

Throughout the school year you may hear your child singing a variety of songs. One of their favorites so far is the Five Little Ducks.

We always introduce math as language to toddlers which often comes in the form of songs like this one. We use concrete visual aids at circle time giving your children the opportunity to hold, arrange and count objects while singing.

Here are the lyrics to Five Little Ducks:

Five little ducks went out one day
Over the hills and far away
Mama duck said, “quack, quack, quack”
But only four little ducks came back

Four little ducks went out one day
Over the hills and far away
