Welcome back Parents,
This week we followed the theme of South America. Exploring this continent via cuisine and art, the children made empanadas, flower bowls and rainsticks.
Guava Empanadas
Miss Desiree returned for another round of cooking. She spent some time with our primary children and made guava empanadas. The children started by cutting guava paste and rolling out pie crust. They placed some guava paste and cream cheese onto pie crust circles, then folded over the crust and pressed to seal it before baking.
The Clay Studio
The Clay Studio will be doing a 6 week residency here at Greene Towne this summer. In keeping with this week’s theme of South America, the primary children made flower bowls. They cut out clay using a flower template, pressed some impressions in their clay before painting it with an underglaze. Their creations are functional, food-safe, dishwasher-safe and will be ready to bring home at the end of camp.
Rainstick Craft
Meanwhile the toddlers made rain sticks.
They collaged tissue paper on their roll. Inside was stuffed with rice and some beans. Simulating the effect of rain can be achieved by rolling the stick or giving it a gentle tilt back and forth.
Soccer Shots
This week the children did a scrimmage game, learned a new skill and scored some goals of course.
Here are a video snippet of one of our primary children practicing “passing and trapping”.
And the toddlers doing the Soccer Cheer!
In what seems like no time at all we have made it to the half way point in our camp cycle.
Stay cool and enjoy your weekend!
Warm regards,
Cherise
