Welcome back Parents,

Here are a few highlights from the month of April.

Baby Chicks!

Chickens arrived at Greene Towne! Eggs were layed and hatched. Each primary classroom had a nesting of baby chicks. Mr. Patrick invited us to visit his classroom to meet the little chicks.

The toddlers used very quiet voices and a gentle touch when petting them.

Here are a few video snippets from our visit:

Africa

We are continuing our journey around the globe via continent work in the classroom. The Africa box has been a popular selection.

In it there are some familiar animals along with a few new ones. These include the zebra, rhino, elephant and oryx and okapi.

The children have also learned a new word: baobab. Miss Liz brought us a lovely miniature baobab tree. These trees are very distinctly African and can be found throughout the continent. The children have observed these trees in some of our work and in books we read including: The Lion and The Mouse, one of our favorite toddler conversation starters, and Old Mikamba Had A Farm.

Old Mikamba is a fun song book that has been a favorite in our classroom for quite some time now. Just think of Old McDonald Had A Farm, only the setting is Africa with animals native to that continent.

Spotlight on Orange Juicing Work

We have added some new work the the practical life area that has multiple steps. Doing so allows the children to build concentration a bit more and build upon their organizational skill set. Orange juicing is a prime example for this. It has become one of the most chosen works in the practical life area. It requires focus and a little patience coupled with determination. The golden reward in the end is the satisfaction of partaking in orange juice made fresh from their own hands.
