Lower El Info Session: January 24, 6pm (in person at 2133 Arch Street, with Zoom option.) RSVP here!

2023 is a very exciting year in the life of Greene Towne Montessori, as we prepare to move into our new home at 55 N. 22nd Street. Our new facility provides space for us to expand the number of children that we serve, as well as the programs that we offer.

After wishing to do so for many years but limited by space, Greene Towne is planning to open a Lower Elementary classroom for children ages 6-9 (grades 1-3). We are in the position to open this program in Fall 2023, if we are able to have commitments for at least 5 children by February 28, 2023.

Fast Facts:

  • Mixed-age classroom of up to 25 students, with a projected 5-8 students in the first year
  • Program hours are 8am-2:45pm, September through June
  • Two lead teachers working as co-leads: Shelby Feldman and Brandon Och
  • Lower El will be open to students completing Primary programs at other Philadelphia Montessori schools
  • Current Greene Towne Kindergarten families will enroll by submitting an intention form. Students applying from outside of Greene Towne will complete an admission process, including an application, transcripts, teacher recommendation forms, and assessment.

Program Overview:

While Greene Towne Kindergarten students dip their toes into the broader community outside of school, the Montessori Elementary student dives into all the city has to offer! Located in the Logan Square neighborhood, Greene Towne is a neighbor to a majority of Philadelphia’s cultural institutions providing the opportunity for students to incorporate experiential learning outside of the classroom into all areas of study.

As children enter first grade, the Montessori elementary environment provides opportunities for children to grow socially and academically. Language, math, science, culture, and other subject areas serve to challenge curiosity and result in discoveries about the world at large. As is true at every level of a Montessori education, and in conjunction with the use of Montessori materials, lessons are presented when they match developmental readiness and serve to increase learning.

Greene Towne Montessori’s Lower Elementary program for children ages 6-9 will be an integral part of our students’ academic journey. As a direct continuation of the skills a child develops through their Primary three-year cycle, the Lower Elementary classroom community provides a new and stimulating environment in which to explore and be inspired. The three-year development process that took place in Primary will begin again, but with an increased focus on academic skills and a new sense of confidence and curiosity.
