Greetings Parents,

Welcome to the blog of the Sistrunk classroom.

Here you will find upcoming events and what is happening in our classroom.

How quickly our first month together has passed us by.  As your children are becoming acclimated to the daily routine and environment they are also establishing their own work cycles with less assistance and prompting from their teachers. As a group they are enjoying circle time, recess and transitioning from one activity to the other with ease. Here are some highlights from the month of October.

Part of the Montessori philosophy is the concept of bringing the outside in. Meaning our classrooms and curriculum reflect the world around us. This provides an opportunity for children to gain a deeper understanding and connection to their surroundings. Nature, the seasons, holidays and weather serve as inspiration for this. Some of the seasonal work so far has included: nesting spiders, pumpkin hammering and a variety of fall themed art. As a nod to Halloween we included spiders, eyeballs and pumpkins in the language, math and practical life areas of the classroom.

Huck is 2! This called for our first official birthday celebration.

Huck had a special birthday circle, he brought in treats for his classmates and his own globe for the occasion.

We have many songs that we sing throughout the school year. You may hear your children singing new songs from time to time. One Autumn favorite is the “Five Little Pumpkins”. Here are the lyrics…

Five little pumpkins sitting on a gate

The first one said, “Oh my it’s getting late.”

The second one said, “There’s sparkles in the air,”

The third one said, “But we don’t care”

The fourth on said, “Let’s run and run and run”

The fifth one said, “I’m ready for some fun”

Oooooo went the wind and

Out (CLAP) went the light

And the five little pumpkins rolled out of sight.
