Hello Parents,

The children are going through a huge language explosion! And for this reason, we are continually changing the work on the language shelf. We have added the name of the object on cards for the card-to-card matching. This is also an extra step in completing this work which builds concentration and focus. It is an introduction to the three-part card that they will explore in Primary.

They have been learning to identify their names and some can identify other children’s names. We are singing the continent using the Montessori globe where each continent is represented by a color. An important part of developing literacy skills is listening. We are practicing listening using a sound bowl and wooden sound frogs, distinguishing between the sounds that the large frog makes compared to the small frog.

“The development of language is part of the development of the personality, for words are the natural means of expressing thoughts and establishing understanding between people”.

Valentine’s Day is approaching! Unlike the Primary children, Toddlers do not exchange Valentine’s Day cards. We celebrate by working on art projects and baking cupcakes. We would love it if you could donate a book with an inscription on the inside. It is always so wonderful to read the inscription even after your children have left our classroom.

Observations are always an exciting time to get a glimpse of your children in the classroom and see how they interact with the environment, the teachers, and their peers. In Montessori, we follow the child. With this in mind, your child may be working in an area where they are not visible to you. This is a time to observe other things in the environment. Look for the level of independence, the interaction between the children, the movement, and the level of concentration the children are exhibiting. I am always so excited for you to observe the wonders of the Montessori environment.

Enjoy the photos!

The children are taking on a more active role in preparing the caring for the environment.

The orange juicing work was engaging. One child said to me “Mommy does that for me” My response was “Now you can do it yourself” to which he smiled.
