Hello Parents!

It has been a busy autumn so far! Lots of wonderful work is happening in the classroom and when the time comes, we play hard at recess. We look forward to the near future when we can play outside, everyday. The estimated start date for this is the end of December/beginning of January. We cannot wait.

*Important: When the roof deck is available at 55 N. 22nd, we will go outside everyday, rain or shine, wind and snow. Please send your child in weather appropriate clothing when needed, i.e. raincoat, rain pants, rain boots, winter coats, mittens, hat, snow boots, etc.*

Thank you all for coming to Parent/Teacher Conferences. Ms. Sara and I always look forward to meeting you in person and talking about your child’s day! Spending our days with your children is truly a gift and a pleasure.

We have begun singing some Thanksgiving songs. Here is one we like:

Turkey Dinner (to the tune of “Are You Sleeping?”)

Turkey dinner, turkey dinner,

Gather round, gather round,

Who will get the drumstick?

Yummy, yummy drumstick,

All sit down, all sit down.

Cornbread, muffins,

Chestnuts, stuffing,

Pumpkin pie, ten feet high,

We were all much thinner before we came to dinner,

Me oh my, me oh my.

A book we are reading is “This First Thanksgiving Day: A Counting Story” by Laura Krass Melmed. As we read it, we talk about how different life was in 1621 (400 years ago).

We also have a work on the shelf that describes and pictures the original homes of the Native North Americans. We are learning that the homes were constructed differently depending on the location. The Igloo is very different from the Longhouse and the Longhouse is very different from the Chickee, etc.

Please enjoy these photos of our recent work!
