Welcome back Parents!
We are fully immersed in winter. The month of January ushered in frigid temperatures, our first snow day and a few new friends. Join me in welcoming Sage, Celeste and Mannat to our classroom community.
Embracing the Arctic Theme
As a nod to the current weather, our classroom has taken on an Arctic theme within the curriculum. We have been exploring animals from both Antarctica and the Arctic Circle such as the Arctic fox, the seal, the orca, penguins, polar bears and a new favorite, the narwhal. The children think of the narwhal as the unicorn of the sea. Here are a few books that we introduced in January.
Five Little Penguins Song
Five little penguins swam the ocean floor
One saw a whale, then there were four
Four little penguins spun around “wheee!”
One spun away, then there were three
Three little penguin with nothing to do
One went fishing, then there were two
Two little penguins having lots of fun
One fell off, then there was one
One little penguin, when the day was done
He went home, then there were none.
Penny the Penguin
Is your toddler as tall as a penguin? This is our life-sized emperor penguin, Penny. Just like the emperor penguin, Penny stands nearly four feet tall. It has become an annual classroom tradition to take photos with her. See how your child measures up next to Penny.
Galaxy Playdough
We made galaxy playdough this month. The key to this type of playdough is the use of an abundance of glitter and stars. The children took turns dropping ingredients in a bowl and kneading their dough. Here is the recipe that we use: UNCOOKED PLAYDOUGH
If you try this at home, let us know how it goes.
