In observance of Earth Week, one of many school projects is repurposing pint and half pint containers and turning them into mini windowsill gardens. Toddlers planted pea seeds to grow at home so they can eat the shoots! Primary students planted lettuce seeds to grow at home and eat!

Instructions are in the bags your child brought home. Just in case they got wet, here they are again:

· Remove the lid from the planting pot and place the lid under your pot on a sunny windowsill.

 · Water the soil a little bit every day until shoots emerge.

 · Keep the soil lightly moist as the pea shoots / lettuce grow.

 · You may start harvesting your lettuce and pea shoots once the sprouts / leaves are a couple inches tall. Snip them with scissors to taste or add to a salad.

Pea shoots will not transplant well but you may have success transplanting the lettuce to a larger pot or garden.

When your seeds are no longer producing new shoots and you’ve eaten all that they offered, dump the soil in a garden, wash out and recycle your planting pot OR, return them to Greene Towne and we’ll repurpose both!

Happy Earth Week!
