Settling Into Our New Home

February was a big month for all of us! There have been so many changes recently: moving into a new building, welcoming new children into our environment, and some starting nap at school; additionally for adults, we are still learning where everything is or goes, and how to navigate the new space. We are all feeling the growing pains of all of these changes and are working through them together. During this time you may have noticed some changes in your child at home. Perhaps they felt more tired, clingy, hungrier, or more energetic recently. These are all appropriate feelings and behaviors to see during times of change. Once everyone gets comfortable with the new routine, these feelings will begin to fade.

One very heartwarming piece of our environment is how the children engage with one another. The authentic and genuine desire to help is rampant. Children are bringing tissues to friends and helping to wipe their noses, they are holding hands and guiding friends while walking in a line to and from Recess, they are assisting with challenging work, they are setting up the tables for mealtimes and pouring water for friends, showing others how to clean plants or change shoes, etc.

Our 2023 Auction Project

Greene Towne Montessori School will be celebrating our 37th Annual Auction on Friday, May 12, 2023. The focus of our project this year is birds. The children chose colors of paint and then painted them onto watercolor paper with a paintbrush or a sponge. Once painted, the children ripped or used scissors to cut their paper into smaller pieces. The children who just phased into school will have an opportunity to do this within the next two weeks.

The pieces will be collaged together to form a bird.

The children have also started working on the background. They sponged on yellow, pink, and teal. Over the next two weeks, they will be invited to add a few more colors and details to the background.

We are excited to see how it turns out!!
