April Blog (Desiree McNeill)

Hello Parents,

April was filled with lots of events and activity, like making cherry blossoms and other spring craft, just to name a few. You might have noticed lots of seahorse art coming home, and this is because our class auction project “Letting Go” was inspired by one of the children’s favorite books, Mister Seahorse, by Erik Carle. In this story we learned that the mommy seahorse lays her eggs in Mr. Seahorse’s pouch to take care of them. During his journey he encountered many other daddy fish that are also taking care of their eggs. He complimented them on doing a great job. In the end the eggs hatched and he said goodbye to the baby seahorses. One little guy tried to come back but Mr. Seahorse told him it’s his time to go out into the world. In the past few weeks we had a couple of children join our class, who are learning to say goodbye to parents at the door, so this book was helpful.

The children are engaging in multi-step work like salt grinding, the Pink Tower, complex puzzles, polishing and washing the leaves of the many plants in our classroom. These extensions are important in further developing concentration.

“Concentration is the key that opens up to the child the latent treasures within him.” (Maria Montessori)

Thank you for participating in the scavenger hunt during spring break. The children were very excited to discuss and view the items found with a magnifying glass!

Fruit tasting!

Ms. Jasmin visited with her baby boy!

New equipment in the movement room added a little challenge.
