Welcome back Parents,

Here are some highlights from session four of summer camp.

Mad Science

Our friends from Mad Science returned for an exciting workshop on smoke and bubbles! The scientist and children explored the fascinating properties of dry ice and learned about condensation through engaging, hands-on experiments. It was a fun and interactive experience that sparked curiosity and encouraged scientific discovery.

The Clay Studio

Continuing with our science theme, the children created dinosaur and dinosaur egg-shaped clay keepsakes. They began by rolling out white ceramic clay with textured rolling pins to create unique patterns. This time, we used white clay so the colorful glazes would really stand out after firing.

The children chose either a dinosaur or dinosaur egg template, traced the shape, and carefully cut away the excess clay. They gently tapped and smoothed the edges to ensure there would be no sharp edges after the pieces were fired. Finally, they painted their dinosaur creations with vibrant colored glazes, making each one a unique work of art.

A Visit from The Philadelphia Fire Department

Greene Towne was thrilled to welcome our neighbors from the Philadelphia Fire Department for a fun and educational visit. Although it was a rainy day, the rain held off just long enough for us to enjoy the entire visit without getting wet. The firefighters met with our primary students indoors to share what they do each day, teach important fire safety lessons, and answer many thoughtful questions. They also gave a demo with the specialized rescue equipment firefighters use.

Afterward, everyone gathered outside to explore the fire truck. The children had the opportunity to climb aboard the truck, and join in an interactive fire hose demonstration.

Just as it wrapped up, the firefighters received an emergency call and had to head out to help the community. While their visit ended a little sooner than expected, our students enjoyed every moment and were grateful for the opportunity to learn from these everyday heroes. We extend our sincere thanks to the Philadelphia Fire Department for taking time out of their busy day to visit Greene Towne.

Mr. David

Mr. David joined us for an exciting scientific concert filled with music, laughter, and learning! He explored a variety of fascinating topics, including dinosaurs, outer space, color theory, and plant life.

He began by spending time with our toddlers. He sang “If You’re Happy and You Know It” with them.

The toddlers loved dancing, singing along with Mr. David, and delighting in his signature “silliness,” as he likes to call it.

Our primary classrooms later joined in, where Mr. David entertained the children with songs about dinosaurs and outer space. He also performed a fun ventriloquist act featuring a mischievous monkey that had everyone laughing. 

Here are two video snippets of him with the primary children singing the Philadelphia classic, “The Colors of the Rainbow” and “The Dinosaur Song”.

To conclude the program, the concert ended with one final dance to “It’s a Small World,” sending everyone off smiling and singing along.

Looking Ahead…

We have one exciting week of Summer Camp left, and we’re ending the season with a bang! Campers will enjoy an active gymnastics session, one more round of Soccer Shots, a few more water play days, and the most colorful day of the summer—our 8th Annual Tie-Dye Pizza Party. We can’t wait to make a few more wonderful summer memories together!
