Greetings Parents,
Week three of camp we explored the continent of Australia.
We started off with a fun concert from Mr. David who performed a lively Australian themed show.
Mr. David
The children learned some new songs, and did a collaborative art piece featuring many animals native to Australia including the wallaby, koala, cockatoo and kookaburra. Mr. David concluded the visit with a dancing parade around the movement room.
Work Cycle
Art
For this week’s Australia-inspired art the toddlers made rain sticks. They painted cardboard tubes with a variety of colors. Beans and grains were put inside to simulate a sound effect of falling rain. Meanwhile, the primary children made Aboriginal inspired dot paintings. They chose an animal to collage onto the composition and completed the work by applying dots of paint.
Soccer Shots
During soccer this week, the children learned a new skill called the “step over”. For this, the children take a big step over their soccer ball and turn around to face it on the opposite side to quickly change their direction.
The children practiced the step over, control (balancing the ball under one foot), and tick tocks (tiny kicks). These maneuvers were put to the test during their scrimmage game.
