Summer is here and we are so happy about it.

So far we have enjoyed starting our mornings in the movement room, some walking field trips, Soccer Shots, a performance by Mr. David, Mad Science lessons, and water play! And of course, work in the classroom as well. In this blog, we’ll touch on all those exciting summer activities and, as always, include some important reminders at the end.

We have been starting the day in the movement room everyday. The children really benefit from the opportunity to run, jump, play, and socialize first thing in the morning.

We plan to continue our walks- when weather and air quality permit- to take advantage of different playgrounds and attractions nearby. The splash pads at Von Colln and Sister Cities are definitely calling us! We plan to visit the Giant to do some grocery shopping. We would like to walk to the Rittenhouse Square Farmers Market on a Tuesday morning. We might even venture as far as Markward Playground!

So far we visited Sister Cities and the Schuylkill River Banks.

The children do Soccer Shots every Friday. The coaches lead them in dribbling and shooting drills then they scrimmage at the end. It is an absolute delight to watch them develop these skills over the course of the summer. The children are all very enthusiastic about Soccer Shots! One note, if possible, please send your child in closed-toed shoes on Fridays so they can participate fully.

Mr. David is a beloved part of summer camp every year. He is the funniest, the silliest, and the most ridiculous! Even after they came back from his performance, the children were laughing full belly laughs about the hilarious antics that he got up to. We were joined by the school day campers as well!

The teachers from Mad Science visit us every Thursday morning. So far the children have learned about dinosaurs, fossils, and birds. They spend some time listening and discussing and then have the opportunity to do some hands-on science.

When the weather permits, we have water play every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 2:30-3:30. The children get changed into their water clothes in our classroom and we walk across the street to 2121 to use the playdeck. We have a bubble machine, a splash pad, and water toys. Sometimes we even have popsicles!

Even though we are enjoying a lot of summer fun, we continue to have a workcycle in the mornings and afternoons. This provides the children with the consistency and routine they crave. To keep things interesting, we have swapped out some of our didactic materials with games, puzzles, and toys. Even though the material is different, the expectations remain the same. This allows the children to practice the norms we have during the school year.

IMPORTANT REMINDERS

  • 7/4- Fourth of July- NO CAMP
  • Fridays- Soccer Shots- Please send your child in closed toed shoes so they can participate fully.
  • Monday, Wednesday, Friday- Water Play- If you need to pick up before 4:00, please email or call so we can be sure to have your child ready!

Thanks so much!
