Greetings Parents,

Welcome back!
It is hard to believe we have reached the halfway point of our summer. Here are some highlights from session two of camp.

Smoke and Bubbles!

Our friend Jumping Jay from Mad Science came to give our primary children a workshop called “Smoke and Bubbles”.
Jay introduced dry ice and the three states of matter (solid, liquid and gas). He demonstrated how cold dry ice is by freezing water on a spoon right before our eyes. The group also enjoyed an abundance of bubbles made of carbon dioxide, soap and water.

Fun With Color Theory

This summer the toddlers will be working on a series of art projects rooted in color theory. Last session they worked on mixing tints.

This week we tried primary to secondary color blending in an unusual medium; play dough.

This color exercise is based on the book Little Blue Little Yellow by Leo Lionni. This book illustrates how blue and yellow make green.

We made two batches of play dough in the colors blue and yellow. The children then took small pieces of each color to blend them together.

If you’d like to give homemade play dough a try, here is our tried and true recipe:

Soccer Shots

Toddlers have been practicing control by holding a soccer ball firmly under one foot. This week they tried the pull back. This move requires using control of the ball with the top of the foot and rolling it back behind you.
The coach arranged cones around the room to simulate volcanoes. The toddlers maneuvered around the cones while running from one side of the room to the other. They enjoyed kicking the cones down in the end.

Primary children were introduced to two new skills: passing and trapping.
Passing: kick ball with the inside of the foot to pass it to a teammate.
Trapping: stopping the ball with the top of the foot.
Both of these skills were used while scoring goals.

Super Circle Time

Miss Nicole joined the toddlers for a Super circle time. They sang some new songs and listened to stories.
The super circle concluded with an all time favorite: Jack in the Box.

Have a lovely weekend everyone!

Best regards,

Cherise
