“A book club where you do not have to read the book.”
Do you aspire to read all the parenting and child development books but don’t have the
time to pick one up? Then this club is for you! The Shared Shelf is a new initiative by the
parent education committee that aims to increase usage of the Parent Education
Library, share resources and knowledge, and build a supportive community that fosters
knowledge-sharing.

The Shared Shelf Workshop: Rewind
A big thank you to all of those who attended the Shared Shelf Workshop on the 30th of
January. This event explored the different topics and resources parents would like to
see in the library. It was a huge success, and we will be using the findings to plan the
upcoming resources covered in the monthly chapter chats.

The Parent Education Lounge

The parent education lounge is up and running! The school has made available an
excellent library of resources for parents to access. We wanted to make this more
accessible to parents by setting up a lounge space in the lobby of the Arch St. building.
Now, when parents attend the GPA Meetings or Parent Education Workshops, you can
view the books, loan one out, or have a conversation in the space and share ideas. We
are still working on making this space beautiful. If you have any furniture or decor
donations, please contact Jess Rice at jesscrocker@hotmail.com.

Chapter Chats
So, how does a book club where you don’t have to read the book actually work? Each
month, we have a parent volunteer to read a new book, and then they present a short
review with the main learnings. This way, we all benefit from the learnings without the
time commitment. And if you think that that resource is particularly worthwhile, you can
then borrow the book from the library and read it in full!

We aim to cover one book a month. At this stage, we will disseminate the reviews at the
monthly GPA meetings. Who knows, though… if it gets popular, we might break out into
our own meeting… with cocktails and canapés?

If you missed the last two chapter chats, you can find the recordings here:
December: “Freeing your Child from Anxiety” By Tamar Chansky, presented by Andrew
Luedders
(part of the December GPA meeting)

January: “No-Drama Discipline” Daniel J. Siegel, M.D. & Tina Payne Bryson, PH.D

The February Chapter Chats review will be presented by at the GPA meeting at 8:30
AM on Wednesday, 19th February. “Out of our minds: Learning to be creative” by Ken Robinson, presented by Dana Levin.

Want to get involved?
We encourage you to attend the next GPA meeting and listen to the Chapter Chat
review. If you would like to volunteer to do a review, please contact us!
