Hello Parents!

In our class, fall is in full swing as well as holiday enthusiasm. We have been singing both Hannukah songs and Christmas carols.

Now that we are in our 4th month of school, the children and deeply absorbed in their work. Stepping into our classroom, you observe, concentration forming, new concepts resonating, and “please” and “thank you” being said. A love for learning is blossoming.

Having “work” to do and being part of a community are two of the greatest gifts your child receives from their Montessori classroom. They are developing themselves socially and emotionally in beautiful ways. The Kindergarteners are giving lessons to the younger friends, the first year friends are practicing waiting their turn for snack, and the middle year friends are discovering new ways of working collaboratively with each other.

Your children are becoming so independent! Independence brings confidence! When watching us, you will see that we are putting on and zipping up our coats, all by ourselves, we are mopping spills and empting heavy buckets of water, and replenishing cotton balls on a tray after using the last one.

How can you inspire this same magic at home? Here is one idea. You can set up a self serve drink station in your kitchen or living space. On a child size table, place a water pitcher and a child size glass. It is that simple. Your child will know what to do. They will pour their own water, just as they do at school. They won’t need an adult’s help when they are thirsty. They can get their own drink! Have a basin or tray available where they can place their dirty glass when finished and a small towel, folded on the table, that they can use to wipe up any spills. Voila! Independence at home!

Enjoy the photos!
