Welcome Back Parents!

It is incredibly Autumn! Such a lovely season to experience the cool breezy days and a multitude of warm colors surrounding us.

A major tenet of the Montessori philosophy is the concept of bringing the outside in. Meaning our classrooms and curriculum reflect the world around us. This provides an opportunity for children to gain a deeper understanding and connection to their surroundings. Nature, the seasons, holidays and weather serve as inspiration for this.

Some of the seasonal work of this month has included: nesting spiders, pumpkin hammering and a variety of fall themed art. As a nod to Halloween we included spiders, eyeballs and pumpkins in the language, math and practical life areas of the classroom.

Rainy days

There were a few rainy days which resulted in some indoor fun.

We had visits from Miss Nicole and Miss Eileen. Nicole gave us a super circle time with some lively stories and fun songs. Miss Eileen picked out some songs and hosted a dance party for us. Here is a quick glimpse at Nicole doing one of the children’s favorite games: Jack in the Box.

Pumpkins Galore

‘Tis the season for pumpkins

Pumpkins galore!

Here is one of the children’s favorite songs.

FIVE LITTLE PUMPKINS

Five little pumpkins sitting in a gate
The first one said, “oh my it’s getting late.”
The second one said, “There’s sparkles in the air.”
The third one said, “Oh we don’t care.”
The fourth one said, “Let’s run and run and run.”
The fifth one said, “I’m ready for some fun.”
Ooooo went the wind!
and out went the light!
And the five little pumpkins rolled out of sight.
Boo!

Applesauce!

We had a bounty of apples this month which gave us the lovely opportunity to make applesauce. The children loved it! This will be a staple in our hearty snack menu during the Fall.

Here is the simple and easy recipe we used. Follow the link and take a peek to get a little more insight on our process. It only requires 2 essential ingredients!

Seasonal Books

A few books we mingled in circle time rotation include:

The Very Busy Spider by Eric Carle, Pete the Cat and the Five Little Pumpkins by James Dean, and Little Blue Truck’s Halloween by Alice Schertle.
