Days are getting warmer, and work more complex.  Everyone and everything is growing!

Making butter with Ms. Prestas!  Delicious on some sliced baguette for snack!

Working with our friends.

Kindergarten street tree tending with Miss Erika, Earth artwork, transplanting our various sprouted beans, lentils, and corn, planting lettuce with Miss Erika, and worm sorting with Ms. Sweeney-Denham for Earth Week!

Your child can sing you the song:

“We take care of ourselves

We take care of each other

We take care of our world

La la la la la la”

Geometric Cabinet work, reading about butterflies, play-dough spirals, an elaborate extension of the sensorial materials, dancing, grading color tablets from dark to light, balancing, using beads on a board to get an impression of division, shaking the sound cylinders to listen for matching pairs.

Conversation starters to ask your child:    What do you do with the pink tower and the brown stair?  How about coffee grinding work or lavender and salt sifting work (Have you tried doing them?   Which one do you like better?)  Have you ever tried walking on the yellow stilts on the play deck?  Tell me about the musical bells in the classroom.  How is the garden doing on the play deck?  What do you see growing there?

All in a day’s work, with learning about insects indoors and out.  On the play deck we see pillbugs, flies and gnats, sometimes a wasp, and 3 kinds of bees:  carpenter bees, honey bees, and a little silvery/clear hover bee.  Inside we see the painted lady caterpillars growing bigger each day, and, after they pupate, taking the form of a chrysalis, we wait.

We said bye-bye to the 5 healthy painted lady butterflies that we reared and observed through growing and metamorphosis.  It’s really true, like in the song:

 “Cuz dontcha know that caterpillars…

Turn into butterflies

And then they go and flap their wings

And fly into the bluuuuue!”
