Hello Parents!

Welcome to fall! We have been talking about the seasons and learning about fall/autumn in particular.

Your child is welcome to bring in a fall colored leaf, or couple of leaves that they have found. We will classify the leaves based on shape and margin and try to find the biological name of each leaf. Some children may even choose to label them and make a booklet of the leaves they find.

Speaking of trees, our classroom received a new name this year. Each Primary classroom received a tree name (The toddler classes received a butterfly name) . We are now the Willow community. When I think of the Willow tree, I think of the beautiful weeping willow on the corner of Mt. Vernon and 18th that I pass on my way home from school. It is one of my favorites.

The classroom is buzzing with conversation and Grace and Courtesy. Ms. Emily came to observe us today and noticed many kind interactions as well as frequent utterings of “please” and “thank you”. The older children are helping the younger children and everyone is invited to give a lesson, they know well, to a friend.

Some favorite works of the moment are watercolor painting a fall leaf, strawberry slicing and serving, sewing a button, the Hundred Board, the lap harp, clothespin work, pin pushing Halloween pictures, and the Pink Tower.

We celebrated Signe’s 4th birthday! Her parents, Liv and Sang, came to celebrate her birthday walk with us. They brought 4 photos, one for each year of Signe’s life, a small treat, and a book to donate to the classroom. As the children ate their small birthday treat, Signe’s mom read the book to everyone. It is a truly lovely experience that we hope you will be able to participate in this year. Please remember to schedule a time to come in. If you are unable to come in person, you may send in photos, small treat, a book for your child’s birthday walk, and a camera (old iPhone will do the job) so that we can record the event for you. If your child’s birthday is in the summer, we can celebrate at the end of the year or at the half birthday mark.

The Kindergarteners went on two walking trips so far this year. The firehouse and the farmer’s market. Both were a great experience. We were able to walk around the neighborhood and learn about two very important professions. Lunch Around the World is being planned by Ms. Eileen and is soon to come. Other field trips will be forthcoming as well.

We have been updating Transparent Classroom with regularity. Please let us know if you have not received any notifications.

Enjoy the photos!

Thank you for giving us the gift of time with your children each day!
