Hello Everyone,

I hope you have been enjoying your 2022-2023 school year so far and are looking forward to what the rest of the year will bring! Now that we’ve firmly settled into the swing of things here at GTMS I’d like to present you with a look back at the DEIB work our students have worked on so far in September and October and what they have to look forward to this month in November.

A look back at the school year so far:

For September the students focused on an apple art project to highlight the celebration of Rosh Hashanah. There was also Rosh Hashanah themed punching work and coloring sheets given out to each classroom and books from our Diversity Library were featured on the highlights shelf. After some students had made their apples we collected them and hung them up in the hallway as a community art project that everyone could enjoy!

For October work focusing on Indigenous People’s Day, Diwali, and Día de los Muertos went out to the classrooms. Students worked on a corn craft that tied in with some of the books from our Diversity highlights shelf and decorated punching works featuring diyas for Diwali and calaveras for Día de los Muertos.

What’s coming up next?

For the month of November a “thank-fall” leaf project will be going out to the classrooms. It is an exercise in mindfulness and gratitude that allows the children to express the things they’re grateful for in their lives and communities while also being a beautiful piece of art unto itself!
