Welcome back Parents!
Autumn is in full effect!
In the Montessori environment we bring the outside in. Essentially, our classrooms and curriculum reflect the world around us. Nature, the seasons, holidays and weather serve as inspiration for this concept. This provides an opportunity for children to gain a deeper understanding and connection to their surroundings. The month of October is when we kick this concept off with great intention. ‘Tis the season for pumpkins and apples and spiders. Oh, and did I mention pumpkins?
Here are some highlights from last month.
Five Little Pumpkins
Five little pumpkins sitting in a gate
The first one said, “Oh my it’s getting late.”
The second one said, “There’s sparkles in the air.”
The third one said, “Oh we don’t care.”
The fourth one said, “Let’s run and run and run.”
The fifth one said, “I’m ready for some fun.”
Ooooo went the wind!
and out went the light!
And the five little pumpkins rolled out of sight.
POOF!
Painted Pumpkins
The children painted some pumpkins for themselves and, as a group, a few for members of our admin staff.
Applesauce
You will see recipes on our blog quite often. This month we made applesauce. It only required 2 essential ingredients!
Here is the simple and easy recipe we use: APPLESAUCE RECIPE
Follow this link and take a peek to gain a little more insight on our process.
All of our classroom’s recipes have a section titled “Toddler as Sous Chef”. There you will find first hand tips on how you can partner with your child in testing out each recipe.

Gross Motor Development in and out of the Classroom
With each passing day your children are growing in their independence and building upon their coordination skill set. Toddlers often test their physical limits to see how far their capabilities can take them. We observe this each day particularly during recess when they run around and play. They navigate the space with more speed and climb with more assurance.
We have included a little open yoga time as an option after recess. This has proven to be a nice bridge between our recess and meal time. Yoga allows the children to wind down a bit and settle in just before their lunch time routine. It plays a part in building confidence and increasing your child’s body awareness and mindfulness. The children have been enjoying practicing a variety of yoga poses. As they partake in some rejuvenating stretching they are improving their agility, balance and flexibility.
