Dear Greene Towne Parents,

With September now behind us, it feels like we have already built a great foundation for the school year ahead. It has been wonderful to reconnect with returning students and to welcome in our new students, who have all settled in so quickly. At this time in the school year, it is so important to establish the expectations in our environment and to make everyone who joins us feel welcome each day. I am very proud of our returning friends for the grace and courtesy they have shown our new students – demonstrating how our classroom functions and inviting them to be a part of it.

Our classroom is abuzz with activity each day, with our new students discovering which materials they find most appealing and with our returners exploring new work opportunities. We have healthy stretches of time each day when it seems like we teachers could just step out and watch from the observation window as the class goes about their work peacefully and productively.

As we look ahead to the coming weeks and months, there are some important events and dates to note. First, I will be attaching the list for upcoming snack & flower dates – these are the dates when we ask your family to take a turn sending in produce and flowers for the class. Thank you to the families who have already taken their turn!

The next schedule to note will be show and tell. I have randomly assigned days for your child to bring in a treasured item to share with the class. I ask that you steer away from items which might commonly be classified as toys in favor of items that might perhaps be a bit more meaningful and valuable as avenues for further exploration. Past students have brought in collected items from a trip to the beach, currency from travel abroad, or special creations/projects from home – all of our returners will remember Wyatt’s volcano from last year!

Finally, I’d like to find time to touch base with each of you, so I’ll be sending out a sign-up for “care calls” – these will be 10-15 minute chats on either zoom or phone to relay a bit about what’s been going on at school and also for me to hear about anything notable from home. If the times listed won’t work for your schedule, please get in touch so we can find a time that does. Stay tuned for a sign-up to be sent out soon.
