Greetings Parents!

What a nice start to our time together this summer!

This first week was full of fun and adventure. Your children are adapting to their new environment and cohorts quite smoothly.

These are the members of our summer teams for the toddler and primary classrooms:

Patrick Sutch-Primary Lead teacher

Alexis Crum-Primary Co-Teacher

Desiree McNeill-Toddler Lead Teacher

Jasmin Perez Quezada-Toddler Co-Teacher Sessions 1-3

Maeve Haney-Toddler Co-Teacher Session 4

Mad Science

We had a visit from our friends at Mad Science.

The primary children enjoyed a “Lasers and Lights” workshop led by scientist Electric Evy. They did some experiments to see how light shines through colors and reflects off of mirrors.

Asia Inspired Art

Throughout this summer we will be following the theme of “Camp Around the World”. Week one we explored the continent of Asia. For this week’s art project, the children made Koinobori windsocks. They embellished their koi fish shaped windsocks using paint and marker.

Since ancient times, Japan has celebrated children in the Spring on a holiday called Children’s Day which became a national holiday in 1948 normally observed in May. We thought it would be a fitting kick off to our time together this summer by celebrating your children with this project.

Soccer Shots

The children will enjoy soccer class with our friends from Soccer Shots each Friday.
These drills are led by Coach Chloe.

At the start of each session the three rules of Soccer Shots are reviewed.
1) Listen to your coach
2) Believe in yourself
3)Try your best

Soccer skills that were presented this session include:
Control: controlling the ball by placing one foot on top of it. They spread their arms for support and to balance.
Dribbling: keeping the ball close with tiny kicks.

Reminders

Some friendly reminders….

  • Please be mindful of your children’s footwear. This is especially important on Fridays, our designated soccer day. Sneakers on Fridays are best. Open toe shoes or sandals are not recommended or ideal for soccer.
  • GTMS is a nut-free facility. For those children who stay for rest, please be sure packed lunches are completely nut-free.

Have a great holiday weekend!

Best regards,

Cherise
