Hello Everyone,

Time is flying! We cannot believe how much we have accomplished in the month of November. It was a pleasure having the opportunity to meet with you during Parent-Teacher Conferences to discuss how your child has made an impact in our environment. To also see what they have been up to for this past month, check out the information and pictures below.

Movement

“Movement is… an essential part of life, and education cannot be conceived of as moderating or, what is worse, inhibiting it. Rather it should permit a child’s energies to develop normally and assist him to exert them more profitably.” Maria Montessori, The Discovery of the Child

As we are enter into the colder months, it’s very important to still provide opportunities of movement for the children in our prepared environment and at recess. Throughout the day, your child is constantly in motion. They carry their work on tray to a table, sweep up crumbs if their snack falls on the floor, roll a work mat, and paint on an easel. During Circle Time, we are not always sitting. We include songs that really gets your child’s body moving, such as “Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes” and “Sleeping Bunnies.” These movement songs allows your child to use their whole body and express their motions by rocking from side to side, raising and lowering their arms, squatting, and jumping. These motions also allows your child to refine and strengthen their skills, as well as guide them to a more orderly, disciplined, and regulated version of themself.

This path month, we got to begin classes with our Movement Teacher, Ms. Jena! With the children, Ms. Jena has worked on:

  • Practicing to balance on one foot
  • Providing a creative opportunity for them to practice kinetic awareness by making different balancing shapes with their bodies
  • Practicing navigating around other children’s bodies in the space and increasing spatial awareness that they are currently developing
