Thank you so much for joining us at the Annual Auction! I am so grateful this year we were able to meet in person to celebrate Greene Towne and show our support, and it was so nice to see everyone. I hope you all enjoyed yourselves.

Goodbye, May!

The children have been so interested in their work, whether it is in the classroom or in the Movement Space. In the classroom, I have introduced more challenges like transferring small object via a clothespin, matching shades of colors that have only subtle differences, or using their names for bean gluing. The children have also been introduced to mini versions of the Pink Tower and Brown Stair.

In the Movement Space the children love to play, but they especially love to use the Primary space and climb on the climber. They are so proud of themselves when they are able to hang, climb, or reach a new height: “Look at me!”

Songs of Interest

The children LOVE these three songs. Ms. Jena, our Movement Teacher, introduced the first one to us during a Movement class that we now play at every Recess… and usually more than two times! Jennie Jenkins is a song book that we will sing, and often will play the song afterwards. Three Little Birds goes along with another songbook, Every Little Thing. It is also just a fun song to play!

Outside Adventures & Releasing Our Butterflies

Last week we walked to the fountain where a big gust of wind came by and sprayed the the children with water. Afterwards, we headed to Sister Cities Park where we looked at the flowers and bugs before going to play at the top. The children had so much fun running around and jumping on the net. By the time we returned to school, they were hungry and so we had an early lunch.

Yesterday we took a walk to Baldwin Park to release our butterflies. We found a nice shady spot under a tree to sit, and then each child who wanted to hold a buttery was able to hold one. Unfortunately the butterflies were so eager to fly away that I was not able to get many pictures, but we were so happy to have shared that experience with each other.

The Chicks Are Here!

The Primary ADM class has baby chicks in their room, and today two of the Kindergarteners prepared one for us to show our classroom. I spoke to the children before Recess about how fragile the chicks are, and prepped them by asking questions on how to hold them. As a group, the children told me they should be: safe, gentle, quiet, soft, and slow. They were all so excited after Recess when I brought the chick into our room. They sat so still and whispered as best as possible. Each child said, “yes” to wanting a turn, even after saying, “no” earlier in the morning— it was too cute for anyone to pass on the opportunity to hold it!! The chick felt so comfortable and relaxed with the children, that it fell asleep. The farmer is coming on Friday to collect them, so we will try for another visit tomorrow!

Upcoming Dates

  • Tuesday, June 14th:
    • Butterfly Wings Celebration: At Recess, we will be giving the children their own butterfly wings. The wings are symbolic as to how the children have grown over this past year. They entered into school as tiny little caterpillars, growing bigger and stronger every day. Over time they have undergone their own version of metamorphosis into the child they are now. This is our way of sending them off for the summer. The butterflies were made from the children’s artwork. Ms. Desiree collected paintings from the easel, cut them into butterfly wings, will laminate them, and attach elastic bands for the children to place through their arms. This has been a Greene Towne Toddler Tradition since as long as I have been here. (A HUGE thank you to Ms. Desiree)
    • Ice Cream “Party” at lunch
  • Thursday, June 16th: Last Day of School
