In our classroom, hands are the children’s primary tools for growing their understanding of the world. Iconic exercises like the Knobbed Cylinders or Pink Tower are obvious examples of how Montessori materials develop a child’s focus through the intricacy of fine motor movements. Yet, training of this mind-body relationship is embedded in every activity in All Day Montessori. Please have a look through some pictures from this month and notice the role of the children’s hands and their relation to the focus, will, and intention that you can see on each child’s face enjoying activities like polishing, playing guitar, building words with the Moveable Alphabet, art, counting beads in a cube chain, or just taking care of the environment through cleaning materials and sharpening pencils. As each simple skill is honed and refined toward perfection, children are continually experiencing the symbiotic relationship of the activities of their hands to the ideas in their minds.

Also, how awesome are these food sculptures the children did with Ms. Ball?! Enjoy these pictures of the glazing process as well as the children staging and photographing their work.
