Did you know: Yayoi Kusama

Yayoi Kusama, the 93 year-old artist who inspired the gloriously colorful art in the foyer of  2121 Arch, is known for her huge paintings made with hundreds and hundreds of dots. But they are not just colorful dots! To her, each dot is part of thousands of others, and she sees herself as a single dot that is a part of our infinite universe. Yayoi is also known for her experimental works over the years. She has filled rooms with glittering balls and lights, and made a huge dress that could be worn by as many as 25 people at a time. She wants to use her notoriety to “change the world for the better,” and organized performance-art events she called “happenings” in the streets of New York City to protest political events, such as the Vietnam War. On a lighter note, Yayoi loves pumpkins! She loves their beautiful shape and sweetness, and loves to show how she feels about them through her art. Can you guess what she likes to cover them in? 😜Dots! Thank you, Diana, for introducing us to this wonderful artist and activist!
