Fundraising at Greene Towne: Why We Do It

By Amanda Reath, Director of Development

At Greene Towne, fundraising is an essential expression of who we are as a community. Since our founding in 1966, we have been guided by our visionary found families’ commitment to creating a “racially, religiously, and economically integrated school.” That vision continues today, as philanthropy ensures that families across all income levels can experience the joy and purpose of an authentic Montessori education.

As an independent school and a 501(c)(3) nonprofit scholarship organization, our budget is primarily tuition-driven. Tuition covers most of the school’s operating expenses, but not all. Fundraising closes that gap and, just as importantly, creates meaningful opportunities for individuals to engage more deeply with Greene Towne—whether by giving financially, volunteering time, sharing expertise, or building connections. Every gift of resources, time, or talent is valued equally, and together they sustain and enrich our community.

Two Streams of Fundraising

  • Unrestricted support – Essential for flexibility, allowing us to strengthen programs, support faculty, invest in professional development, augment tuition assistance, and respond to unexpected needs. The Annual Fund and our Annual Auction & Social each spring (save the date: May 15, 2026) are the cornerstones of unrestricted giving.
  • Restricted support – Directed toward specific priorities, such as tuition assistance through Pennsylvania’s EITC and OSTC tax credit programs.

Philanthropy in all its forms—time, talent, and treasure—ensures that Greene Towne continues to thrive for generations to come. We invite you to join us this year in whichever ways feel right for your family!

We strive to exceed each of these wonderful numbers this year!
