School has been buzzing thanks to our first snowfall of the school year and in anticipation of the holidays and winter break! Here are a few festive highlights from this month.
Lower Elementary
Our Lower Elementary students took the bus to attend two performances: Pennsylvania Ballet’s Nutcracker at the Academy of Music, where they saw one of their Lower Elementary friends perform, and A Wrinkle in Time at the Arden Theater. Special thanks to Independence Blue Cross and Greene Towne Board President Kernika Gupta for making the trip to the Nutcracker possible.

Kindergarten
Lunch Around The World – Guyana and India
December’s Lunch Around the World brought the Kindergartners together for a shared experience featuring Guyana and India, hosted by the Birch Tree families: the Felters and Rupps.
Students were introduced to foods from Guyana, including channa (chickpeas), fishcakes made with salted fish, and pholourie made from split peas and flour. One host family’s Gammy read a book she created about the history of Guyana, and the father introduced a kite-making and decorating activity. Kite flying is a long-standing tradition in Guyana, especially around Easter, when families gather to fly kites together.
The children also learned about India and tried paneer makhani, paratha, and puri. The other host family shared a poster with a map of India, pointed out locations where their family is from, and described pictures representing different aspects of Indian culture, including cricket, Bollywood, elephants, and the greeting “namaste.”
Thank you to our families for sharing their cultures and supporting this meaningful experience for our kindergarten students!
