Happy Spring Primary ADM Families!

We have all been basking in the sunshine and warmer weather this past month. The children participated in some springtime activities this April- prepping and planting in the courtyard, watching for our chicks hatch, and lots of plant care inside and outside!

All the children helped Ms. Goldberg prepare and plant in the courtyard this month. They sifted for worms to bolster to our vermicompost, layered more compost and mulch on our planters, and added new greenery to our already verdant garden.

At recess, the children continue their care of our outdoor environment by watering and misting the plants- a new favorite seasonal activity!

It was lovely to have chicks again this year! They arrived as eggs in an incubator that was kept in our Primary ADM lobby where children could take turns observing them. After about a week, the eggs hatched into downy yellow chicks. The children named them, and in Circle, each child was able to hold one. After a week with us, the chicks went back to Quiver Farms.

Some of the older children collaborated to make a poster with each chick and their name.

We celebrated some birthdays this month too! Here are Paul and Yori walking around the sun to represent each year of life.

This month the Kindergarteners were able to carryout a K tradition of reading to the Toddlers in a novel and Covid-safe fashion- over Zoom! They had been preparing for months by practicing reading aloud everyday as a part of their K work. Each Kindergartener had at least one opportunity to read to our whole class at Circle. Many of them volunteered more than once to read their favorite books; anything by Mo Willems and The Bad Seed are particularly beloved by all. They also practiced with the technology by reading to Ms. Christina once, Ms. Maggie once, and each other once over Zoom. We feel so fortunate that we can find ways to build community as a whole school while still keeping each other safe.

On a final note, all of the Primary ADM staff has taken their Spring Breaks. We were so happy to have Ms. Sophia with us as our seasonal sub. You may have heard your child talk about her reading Dragons Love Tacos from her magical bag of books, introducing special K work, or bringing in water beads for the children to observe and take home. We have enjoyed having her as a member of our community this past month and look forward to her joining us again in the summer to cover staff summer breaks!

Best,

Ms. Jamie, Ms. Maggie, Ms. Diana, Ms. Allison, Ms. Erica, Ms. Chris, and Ms. Jame
