Greene Towne in the News
Recently Greene Towne was featured on the front page of Center City Quarterly, the newsletter of the Center City Resident's Association. In the article, titled Peace Education: Part of Montessori’s Past, Preparation for a Complex Future, we talked about the importance of the Peace Curriculum in Montessori and how we specifically celebrate peace here at Greene Towne. The International Day of Peace is a wonderful jumping off point to start the school year. The Kindergarten students, under the guidance of Art Teacher Emily Grant, create pinwheels for Pinwheels for Peace and a collaborative art installation with a message of peace to share.
Maria Montessori believed in peace education and believed that children would be the catalyst for change in the world. The Montessori Peace Curriculum teaches conflict-resolution skills, gives children confidence to share their feelings, and teaches empathy to listen to others.
