Applying to First Grade Rewind

Thank you to all the parents of our rising Kindergarten Class of 2019 for coming to hear and learn about the wide variety of school options available to them after Greene Towne and the steps to take to make the process smooth and successful in finding the right match for the child
and the family.

A special thanks to two of next year's Kindergarten students, Bowie and Paco, who, in true Montessori practical life fashion, helped to put away all the chairs at the end of the evening while parents had some one to one time with the school reps!

Finally, we are very grateful to the school representatives and other presenters who shared information about their types of schools and the application and testing process. This year our panel represented 5 Philadelphia area schools representing the wide variety of options our
families have to choose from and shared information about their types of schools with the parents.

Our panel included:
Charla Okewole from Germantown Friends School represented Friends schools and spoke about Quaker education and riding the bus.
Audra Walsh from Gladwyne Montessori explained Montessori for the Elementary years, how the curriculum continues, and Middle School leadership
Jennifer Miles from The Haverford School discussed the goals and value of single sex education and attending school outside of Center City.
Frances Hoover from The Philadelphia School represented Progressive education and learning in a small school community.
Current Greene Towne and Greenfield Elementary parent, Rushika Fernando, talked about neighborhood public schools and attending a school in your community.
Sara Evans addressed the testing process for 1st grade admissions and shared many helpful hints.

We also want to congratulate our current Kindergarten families on making their decisions for their children's schools for next year. To date, the members of the Class of 2018 were offered enrollment and/or plan to attend the following schools. Our now experienced parents are
happy to share their words of wisdom with the next group of Kindergarten parents.
