Parent Education Workshop: Talking To Children about Race and Inequality

Talking with Young Children about Race and Inequality with Ryan Glover
Thursday, February 2 6:30-7:30pm, with reception to follow @ GTMS East

Numerous studies have shown that children begin to notice racial difference in the first year of life, and that the more frankly and frequently race is discussed by parents, the more likely children are to respect and value persons with racial and ethnic backgrounds different from their own. But many of us do not know what to say or how to address race and inequality with our young children. Ryan Glover, who has worked with numerous Philadelphia schools on diversity initiatives, will discuss ways that parents can become conscious of the messages we are conveying about race, privilege, and discrimination so that we can begin to engage our children in honest but age-appropriate conversations. Please join us for this important event.
