Thanksgiving Food Drive Rewind
Thank you to everyone for the generous contributions to this year’s Food Drive benefiting SHARE Food Program. We were able to donate a dozen large, packed to the brim boxes of food. The Thursday before Thanksgiving, the Kindergarten students spent time sorting all the donations into categories: Vegetables, Fruit, Meat, Pasta/Rice, Cereal, Beans, etc., putting to good use their emerging reading skills. Most of the children enjoyed sorting so much that they wished there were more donations to sort!
Before and after sorting we talked about how much this food is needed in our community to help people who don’t have enough food to eat and how grateful the recipients are for the donations. We reflected on the holiday of Thanksgiving and the Kindergarteners shared some of the things they are grateful for (see the list below).
On Monday, the Kindergarten children gathered to hear Steveanna Wynn, Executive Director at SHARE, speak about the challenges faced by families who don’t have enough food. Steveanna spoke about the important difference our school’s donations will make for hungry Philadelphia families.
Here are some of the things our Kindergarten students are thankful for: my mommy and my daddy, this country, that I have a family, toys, food, pets, books, ice cream, Santa, good schools, basketballs and basketball hoops, teachers, a nice house and everything I have, my brother/sister, cousins, vacation, that I have a healthy family...
Thank you for supporting the GTMS Food Drive!
