Welcome back Parents!

Arctic Themed Work

We are fully immersed in winter. During these frigid temperatures our classroom has taken on an arctic theme. We have been exploring animals from Antarctica and the Arctic Circle such as the arctic fox, seal, the orca, penguins and polar bears. Some arctic work the children have been doing includes penguin shape matching, nesting dolls, polar bear scrubbing work and a basket of arctic animals.
The Emperor Penguin

Is your child as tall as a penguin?
In this case, the emperor penguin which stands about four feet tall. See how your children measure up to our life sized cardboard model.
Recipe of the Month

Cooking with your children is a fun activity that promotes hand and eye coordination, strengthens fine and gross motor development and provides opportunity for social awareness. We seize the opportunity to do this a few times each month as it also builds a sense of community because as a group your children are setting up something special for the classroom.
This month we made pesto pasta. This is a nut free recipe that substitutes the usual pine nuts with sunflower seeds. Take a peek at this recipe here PESTO PASTA.
Toddler Conversation Starters
Here are a few books that I like to refer to as “toddler conversation starters”. As I mentioned during our classroom coffee, each of these books allow your child to participate in the structure of the story. Hone in on your child’s keen eye for detail and strengthen their language skills through organic conversation. The fun part is this takes no special skills whatsoever. The outcome may be a little different each time you explore any of these books with your child.
