Greene Towne is excited to be a research partner with the University of Pennsylvania’s Language & Cognition Lab. For the second year, the Language and Cognition Lab is inviting Greene Towne families to take part in their research on language learning.
The Language & Cognition Lab works with Phila-area schools and childcare centers. Their research helps provide a greater understanding of children’s cognitive development and create better methods of teaching languages, as well as therapies for children with language disabilities and adults who need to re-learn language after a brain injury. This research allows our families to participate in studies that investigate how children learn and process language, which is also of deep interest to Greene Towne!
Their current study is with children ages 4 and 5 years old. During the study, each child will meet with a researcher and play a short computer game lasting 5–10 minutes. They will watch some videos and answer yes/no questions about what they see. Children typically enjoy participating and will receive a sticker as a thank you. We will return to Greene Towne Montessori in the coming weeks to conduct the study. Sessions take place here at Greene Towne on Mondays, 3:15-4pm, in order not to disrupt children’s daytime routines.
If your child is 4 or 5 years old, and you would like your child to participate, please email Tia at Greene Towne (mbranch@gtms.org ) and we will send a permission form home for you to sign. If you have questions, contact Sarah Sweeney-Denham.
