Greetings Parents,
Throughout this summer we will be following the theme of “Camp Around the World”. This week we explored the continent of Asia via art and cooking.
Asia Inspired Art
For this week’s art project, the toddlers worked on a Koi Fish painting project. First they treated the background with bubble wrap printing to simulate water. Then they painted their Koi fish using salt painting techniques with a combination of salt, glue and watercolor.
Cooking with Miss Desiree
Miss Desiree came in to visit us. She cooked mango sticky rice with the children. Mango sticky rice is a traditional Southeast and South Asian dessert. The children rolled their rice into a ball, cut up some mango and poured an oat milk mixture over it. After letting it cool they enjoyed this as a treat.
Mad Science
Our friends from Mad Science came to do a workshop with our primary children. They did an experiment to determine objects that sink and float. They also learned about surface tension. To give the children a visual, the scientist sprinkled a layer of pepper on the surface of a dish of water and broke the tension with drops of liquid soap.
Soccer Shots
Soccer Shots will be joining us every Friday morning. Please be sure to send your child in wearing sneakers or closed toe slip resistant shoes. Open toe shoes and sandals are not ideal for kicking soccer balls.
Soccer skills that were presented this session include:
Control: controlling the ball by placing one foot on top of it. They spread their arms for support and to balance.
Dribbling: keeping the ball close with tiny kicks.
At the close of the drill each of the children took a turn to score a goal.

Enjoy your weekend!
