Greetings Parents,

Mad Science

Mad Science returned with an exciting workshop called Bug Buddies.

The children learned the three body parts of insects: the head, thorax and abdomen. They were able to see some insects up close and examine the parts. Electron Evy, the scientist, talked about flies. She explained that flies have two complex eyes and each eye has thousands of simple eyes within. So the group could get a sense of what this means, they tried on these cool glasses that allowed them to see things as flies do.

They ended their time in the workshop by making their very own insect.

South American Art

This week we explored South America. Molas are brightly colored textile art which normally have linear patterns. Using this art as inspiration the children made their own molas using paper.

The toddlers created bird mola hand puppets. The primary children made a mixed media piece by stamping patterns on the background and collaging an animal on top. They choose from animals native South America including the Galapagos giant tortoise, the jaguar and the monkey.

Soccer Shots

This week during soccer the children participated in a scrimmage game and had fun naming their teams. They were the “purple cheetahs” vs. “the rainbow dinosaurs” and the “rocket ships” vs. the “sparkling unicorns”.

They children practiced several maneuvers including, the pull back, control, the step over and big kicks.

Enjoy your weekend!

Best regards,

Cherise
