 Greetings Summer Parents!

What a nice kick off to our time together this summer!

These first two weeks were full of fun and adventure. Your children are adapting to their new environment and cohorts quite smoothly.

These are the members of our summer teams for the toddler and primary classrooms:

Desiree McNeill (toddler lead)

Ben Cohen (toddler assistant)

Patrick Sutch (primary lead)

Alexis Crum (primary assistant)

Caroline and Rowen are our two junior counselors who have been assisting us for a number of years.

During camp session one we followed the theme of plants and insects.

The toddlers have been very busy creating art featuring dragonflies, caterpillars and  butterflies.

The primary children enjoyed a virtual workshop given by Mad Science called “Powerful Plants”.

The presenting scientist, Mr, E., discussed the life cycle of plants from seeds to germination.

The children planted their own seeds to take home, grow, and eat!

The children have been enjoying soccer class on Fridays.

These drills are led by Coach Steve (toddlers) and Coach Dav (primary).

At the start of each session the three rules of Soccer Shots are reviewed.

1) Listen to your coach

2) Believe in yourself

3)Try your best

Character words are introduced each week as well. So far, these include “respect” and “confidence”.

Soccer skills that were presented this session include:

Control: controlling the ball by placing one foot on top of it. They spread their arms for support and to balance.

Dribbling: keeping the ball close with tiny kicks

Changing speed: going from slow to fast while dribbling.

Some friendly reminders….

Please be sure to do your children’s temperature checks each morning before arriving at school.

Apply sunscreen on your child each morning particularly on those sunny days.

We have movement class with Mr. Julian each Wednesday and Soccer Shots each Friday. These are ideal days for you to send your child to camp wearing sneakers.

Stay tuned for the blog for camp session 2. Some highlights in store are Super Circle Time with Miss Nicole, a Mad Science workshop on the human body and Mr. David will be performing a “Science” concert.

Have a great weekend!

Kind regards,

Cherise Sistrunk

GTMS Summer Camp Director
